Located immediately west of the existing Astrodome in Houston is the new 69,000-seat stadium that is the home for the National Football League's 32nd franchise, the Houston Texans, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and other community events.
The seating bowl design is unlike any other NFL venue. The geometry and section is pulled as close to the action as the NFL will allow. The first row, located 4'-0" above the field, allows the entire section to be pulled down and forward. Each of the main and club level concourses has open views of the field. The building accommodates 7,500 club seats and 154 private suites with VIP patrons having separate access. Eight escalators and four elevators will accommodate the flow of patrons. The lower suite level, positioned just above the main concourse, will be the closest in the NFL to date. There are larger suites that can be rented on a per game basis. These four super suites (80 people each) and four mega suites (150 people each) are accessed off the public mid-level concourse at the ends of the building.
The press cameras are located at the back of the club seating deck. The national broadcast booth is located at the 2nd level and the balance of press requirements are located in a gondola above the upper seating deck on the west side of the building.
The retractable roof, skinned in translucent fabric, rides on two large supertrusses that span the length of the building. The skin of the building is largely glazed on both the sides and ends. The multiple terraces at each concourse will dramatically improve the spectator's experience. With the natural sunlight and grass turf, along with the ability to step outdoors, will help the building feel like an open-air stadium. At the same time, the climate inside the building will be controlled so as to provide a comfortable experience for the fan.
